Legal Expert at the Ministry of Justice
Are you interested in societal issues and want to work with current affairs and tasks that can quickly vary based on events in Sweden or the world? Are you stimulated by diverse, interesting, and challenging tasks? Do you want to handle legal matters in a political environment where the mission is to assist the government in its work and where you, as a legal expert, provide the legal expertise? Right now, we can offer you, as an assessor, exciting work with high-priority and meaningful tasks where you, together with skilled colleagues, translate politics into legislation.
Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow.
You will monitor, prepare, and drive legislative matters, which includes drafting committee directives, departmental memoranda, legal council opinions, and propositions. You will also handle ongoing tasks such as reviewing products from other units and departments based on your unit's legal responsibility, conducting legal investigations, and participating in working groups related to your unit's or department's area of responsibility. Another common aspect of your daily work is to quickly produce various types of fact-based materials for the political leadership in the form of memoranda, talking points, and materials for responses to interpellation questions and press releases, based on events in the world or political initiatives. There may also be opportunities to represent Sweden in negotiations and other international work, primarily within the EU.
The work is characterized by many points of contact within the Ministry of Justice, with other departments within the Government Offices, as well as with the parliament, authorities, and interest organizations.

Your Background
You are an assessor from the administrative court or court of appeal. To be successful in this role, you need to be a skilled writer. You also need to be a stringent presenter with a developed ability to adapt presentations to different target groups and highlight the most essential points in oral contexts. We expect you to be proficient in English as a working language, both orally and in writing. Previous legal work experience after the assessor appointment is advantageous. It is also beneficial if you have experiences that contribute to a well-developed understanding of working in a politically governed organization.
Your Qualities
To succeed in this role, you need to have strong drive. You are responsible and used to working independently while enjoying close collaboration with others. You thrive in a role with many points of contact and have an excellent ability to create and maintain good relationships. Since the operations are largely influenced by external factors, you need to have great flexibility as focus can change quickly. You must be able to deliver quality materials even under time pressure. The issues we handle are often of a very complex nature, which requires excellent analytical skills and a well-developed ability to find well-balanced proposals for solutions. A good ability to create consensus on issues involving many stakeholders is valuable. Working in a political environment also places high demands on sound judgment and integrity.
The employee criteria of the Government Offices are wholeness, development, and results. Everyone working in the Government Offices needs to have a holistic view and collaborate for the best of the organization. You are expected to contribute your perspective and expertise while being open to others. You will bring ideas and new approaches to improve and develop the organization and your own skills. You are results-oriented in your actions and adapt when needs and directions change.
We place great importance on personal suitability.
